‘Autumn’ or ‘Fall’ is here, depending on where in the world you are! For me here in New York that means ‘pumpkin pie spice’ everything, from lattes and tea, to cookies and donuts, granola and even popcorn!
So, what exactly is pumpkin pie spice? It’s simply cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg. Doesn’t it sound delicious?
And just in case you can’t find it in a store and would like to make it yourself, it’s super-easy and here are the quantities you will need:
4 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cloves
½ tsp ground nutmeg
As popular at Pumpkin Spices Lattes are, I just can’t bring myself to try it. Coffee is one of my greatest loves and I’m a purist. I can imagine nothing worse that pumpkin pie spice coffee, ugh.
Another of my greatest loves is smoothies so I decided to channel the ubiquitous pumpkin pie spice into some smoothie energy.
After a little bit of experimentation In the kitchen, I’m ready to share with you my new love. Seriously, I’ve sipped on this smoothie for breakfast, lunch, a snack and dinner…. Not all on the same day!
I’d like to share a little bit about some of the key ingredients, just to keep in brief!
Cauliflower: contains some of almost every vitamin and mineral you need!
Cinnamon: (from the pumpkin pie spice mix) Delicious - tick!! It’s also loaded with antioxidants which have anti-inflammatory effects.
Avocado: I put 1/8 to ¼ in every smoothie I make. Primarily because it makes it thick and creamy but also because it’s a heart-healthy fat and a good source of lots of vitamins and minerals.
